The Electric Prunes
Stockholm 67

"More white lights. Snow. Beautiful, beautiful women. I'm glad they're not all California girls. Blond everything, everywhere. No neutrality on our part. Think I'll dye my hair and stay here forever. But, as usual, there's work to do. Concert takes place in this great opera house. Spectacular view from the stage. Lots of red. Great pipe organ way off in the back recesses of the room. Don't touch! Zappa ruined it for all of us that followed by playing "Louie, Louie" on it. The Nice open the show. Great damn band. Different type of music - Bolero, modern jazz driven by Emerson's B-3. We put on a good show, but not one of our best. Quint disappears during show. Can't find him until spot hits him at railing of top row in back with his tom-tom. I have no idea how he got there. Of course no idea how he gets to a lot of places. I have absolutely no memory of the show being recorded. But then, since there is this recording it must have been. That's right, right?"

-Mark Tulin

"Stockholm landing in blizzard...beautiful girls...beautiful opera house. Red seats...How can we make up for the war? Hope the crowd doesn't want a yelling match. 'Nice' open show and kickass, they are a great band. Some guys want to record the concert for a radio broadcast. James takes a look at equipment set up and says 'no thank you...'

This album might be the result of someone accidentally pushing the record button in Stockholm that night..."

The ELECTRIC PRUNES with former Moby Grape main man Peter Lewis

It is a limited edition (100) CDR of a song about a Hollowed party that they went to last year in Beverly Hills

There ain't nothing like a Halloween party in Hollywood.  Hell, with all of the plastic and powder used 'round the southern Cali area, it could be considered Halloween everyday.  But on this particular Halloween night, last year, one of the oddest assortnment of ghoulish ladder-walkers strutted about a party that ended all parties.  Peter Lewis was there...until he was told to leave.  This song represents his experience at a party that started out from hell, and then went deeper, into a psychedelic nightmare. Artwork by Jimmy Hole.

Well, just when you thought it was safe to come out of the kitchen......here comes another Electric Prunes release! This is THE one! Four years ago David Katznelson got in touch with us and asked if we would like to remix our old stuff and create a compilation album that reflected the past works of the band. At that time this was to be a Reprise project. We ( Mark and I) went into Penguin studios with Bill Inglot and David and went through the original 4 track tapes and remixed (analog, of course) almost all the stuff. There are 3 tracks that appear on this compilation that have never been released. We also got a good laugh from some banter between Dave Hassinger and the band during the recording sessions.

The Reprise thing dragged on and on and I promised everyone it was coming out time after time. I felt like an idiot when each release date came and went. I apologize to everyone for my eager-beaverism. I had forgotten how the record business worked! Tell 'em anything.......maybe they'll stop calling. David Katznelson was convinced this collection should come out and was undaunted by the delays. Three cover art variations, a switch to Birdman Records, and four years later the project is ACTUALLY coming out!

While the band appreciated the Rhino Collectors Choice releases of the first three albums this summer, the mixes and recording levels were not what the record buyer deserved. Much of the material on those three albums is not reflective of the original band. I'm sure David Axelrod was not pleased with the "invasion" of the new and improved Electric Prunes Flowing Smoothly, Wade on his fine concept album Mass in F minor. Insensitive, perhaps. Well this is the stuff of corporations and record companies that don't understand the music; they see "units" and sales figures.

Birdman's LOST DREAMS release is quite different. This is our difinitive compilation album, reflective of the work we did, released by people that know this type of music, in an imaginative package with a great Gered Mankowitz cover! Not to mention the true story of the band as seen through the liner notes of music critic Don Waller.
